Thanks, it really made my day when she laid the first one! I hope the other two catch on soon!
congrats, there is nothing like fresh eggs from your own chickens, they taste and look better also.
Thanks Stacey. I had read that the first few eggs can taste a bit weird and have a strange texture, but the two we ate last night were delicious and, yes, the yokes were bright yellow and looked great! Thanks also for following my blog :-)
On ya Edna. Do you feel like a proud parent?Interesting that the first couple of eggs can taste a bit weird and have a strange texture.x
I definitely felt like a proud parent, the neighbours must have thought I was crazy, standing in the backyard praising my clever girls!!
Congratulations with your chooks, have you worked out which comes first "the Chicken or the Egg"!!However I envy you with your chooks as my spouse will not let me keep chickens in the garden, what would you suggest?from a relative in W.A.
Dear Anonymous Relative from WA, Perhaps if you secretly build a beautiful chook shed and then go out and buy some really cute fluffy chickens and set the whole thing up one day when your spouse is out of the house and present it with a big ribbon around it, and a special dinner of omelette to showcase the possibility of fresh eggs, you might get away with it! (Just don't tell her I suggested that approach!)ps. In our case the chickens came before the eggs!!
Thanks it appears as though you have experience, I will let you know how I get on, when I have summed up the courage to try it!!
I look forward to being able to post the picture of your beautiful new chook house with big shiny ribbon around it! Good Luck and be strong!!
